Where I practice
I grew up in Denver, went to college at Colorado State University and received my medical school degree and Pediatric training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. I decided to be a pediatrician when I was 8 years old - influenced by my love of my pediatrician, my then desire to have 10 children of my own, and my amazement that by eating a polio vaccine-infused sugar cube at school I would be spared a fate incurred by my mother: spending a summer in an iron lung for poliomyelitis. I became a pediatrician, worked with my mentor, and had just 3 children of my own after marrying a molecular biologist/virologist 27 years ago. Our oldest son recently graduated from the University of Miami in music performance and is currently a free-lance percussionist in the Bay Area. Our middle son will be attending the University of Denver where he will pursue biology in the hopes of a sports medicine career, all the while swimming as a varsity athlete. Our youngest daughter is finishing her sophomore year in high school and will be riding horses, raising a market pig for 4H this summer in between lifeguard shifts. In our spare time, my husband and I enjoy experiencing eclectic music in San Francisco, timing swim meets in Denver, and mucking stalls in Aurora.
About my practice
I recently came to Kaiser Permanente after 16 years in private pediatric practice in central Denver. There I was blessed to partner with the doctor who had been my pediatrician as a child and the inspiration for my career in pediatrics. I learned to listen with a big heart, speak with a warm smile, and most importantly, treasure the privilege of sharing a unique intimacy with each child and family that came my way. I thoroughly enjoy developing a relationship with a family which often can extend from birth to "leaving the nest". It is through such a bond that trust and collaboration can be established between parent, child, and doctor. I am an advocate of preventative health maintenance and have a special interest in Infectious Disease.
How I thrive
I thrive by spending time alone, working out in the pool as many times a week as I can garner. I thrive by spending time with my family in whatever way possible, usually by cooking and sharing a meal. My time with friends is precious and priceless - usually spent walking in one of the Denver parks, sharing laughs and shedding worries. As a family we enjoy biking and hiking and camping throughout Colorado in all seasons. We listen to all styles of music at home which adds a light spirit to our daily lives. I am a board member for the Colorado Honor Band Association in Denver and have volunteered in various ways at my children's schools throughout the years, the most fun being making sno-cones at Field Day and chaperoning After-Prom.
