I am originally from Michigan and moved to Colorado 36 years ago for an adventure! After all this time, I am still finding adventure here. My husband is a Colorado native and we enjoy traveling around the state to learn the history of many of its small towns. The beauty of the mountains makes the road trips even more enjoyable and fills us with appreciation for the majesty of our state. I am from a family of nurses with a grandmother, mother, and sister who all spent many years in nursing—it seemed to be my destiny to become a registered nurse. I received my BSN from the University of Colorado, and after 10 years in oncology, and later home health nursing, I took on the challenge of becoming an Advanced Practice Nurse. In 2001 I earned my masters of science in nursing with a family nurse practitioner specialty from Regis University.
I joined Kaiser Permanente almost 13 years ago in the department of Continuing Care, now known as Complex Care Home Rounding, where I care for geriatric patients. I spent many years as a visiting nurse, seeing patients in their homes around the Denver area, and enjoy getting to know patients in a non-clinic venue. Kaiser Permanente seemed like a natural fit for me to work with this special population, and I find it very rewarding. I truly care about my patients and do my utmost to attend to their holistic needs. I believe patients should be involved in their care and welcome their input.
I enjoy spending time gardening as I enjoy all types of flowers. When the weather is not conducive to gardening, I enjoy crafting, including floral arrangement, painting, and seasonal craft design. I find this gives me a chance for artistic expression. I also spend time relaxing by writing to my 7 sponsor children, with 2 in Rwanda, 4 in Tanzania and 1 in Kenya. My husband and I have sponsored these children for the 10 years, helping them with school fees, books, and uniforms, allowing them to pursue a better life, learn a skill, or perhaps even go on to pursue a career. It has been such a pleasure to watch them grow up over the years, and one day, I hope to meet them in person.
