Kaiser Permanente provider
Idioma que hablo:
Sí, en mi consultorio se aceptan pacientes nuevos. Es posible que sea necesaria una remisión.
I grew up on the West Coast, in both Washington State and California. I went to Humboldt State in Northern California for undergrad and majored in Psychology. After undergrad, I worked in low-income areas of the East San Francisco Bay Area doing paraprofessional counseling with middle schoolers and LGBTQ teens. After three years, I decided to pursue my doctorate in Clinical Psychology and I got my Psy.D. at the University of Denver's Graduate School of Professional Psychology. Initially I planned to work with low-income patients and Spanish-speakers and for most of my training I worked with these populations in community health centers and a domestic violence/sexual assault agency. However, during a full-time internship at Kaiser Permanente during my final year in my graduate program, I fell in love with the work and patients here. As soon as I was able, I returned as staff.
I use a variety of approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, among others, and I incorporate mindfulness where appropriate. I am always happy to suggest other resources that will help with treatment, including books, videos, and apps. Stylistically, I am warm and gentle but also direct. I use a lot of humor and am a psychology geek at heart so I am often sharing geeky facts that relate to what is going on for you. I am bilingual (English/Spanish) and have worked with patients from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds (including ethnicity, religion, LGBTQ, as well as others). I believe that cultural background can be an important component in therapy for some; for others, it may just be one aspect of their identity. I have experience working with a wide range of issues (e.g. anxiety, depression, etc.).
I use a solution-focused approach aimed at helping you process whatever you need to process, get the skills you need to function more effectively and feel better, so that you can go spend your time/money on life rather than on therapy. I do not believe that a one-size-fits-all approach is helpful and I try to be flexible to your needs. I work as a team with our specialists, pharmacists and others to coordinate my patients' care. My goal is to provide the most appropriate care for my patients, so they aren't spending extra time or money to get the care they deserve.
I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and dog. I love being active (especially hiking and lifting weights) but relaxation (reading, taking walks, meditation, movies, playing pool, listening to music) is also important to me.
